Image
Image brings design to life but most of my clients find that producing their own professional quality photographs is very expensive. I have accounts with the world’s best image libraries and a thorough understanding of copyright law and use of third party images. This gives my clients access to high quality professional images at a low cost. Of course if the brief does require a professional shoot then I have access to some amazing photographers, covering a wide range of budgets.
Color
Color is a wonderfully powerful element in graphic design and needs careful consideration. Surprisingly the same colour can look different on a website than it does on a printed page. Large companies understand the importance of consistency in the colours that they use. The McDonalds logo is Pantone 123 for the yellow and Pantone 485 for the red and you’ll never see a McDonalds sign looking off-colour! I use the Pantone colour matching system to select the best colours for my clients and to ensure that they are consistent throughout their materials.
Typography
Typography is the arrangement, style and appearance of type and typefaces. It’s something that I'm passionate about. Having the correct typeface for your image, brand and logo is paramount and I’ll guide you through the wonders of the printed word. Good typography is not noticed because you’re too busy reading it!
Other important considerations could be...
Printers
Once your design work has been completed I can recommend printers for you. I can also create your design specification and source quotes from various printers to get the best possible price. I can do this work as part of our contract if you don’t have a printer already.
Advertising
I have an in-depth knowledge of press and digital advertising. If you want to advertise in a newspaper or place your banner on a website I can design the advert, create the artwork (ready for press or online) and deal with the publishers for you.
The global network of connected computers (the internet) and the data it carries is the first communication network in human history that is not owned or controlled by anyone. Amazing.
Website design is not a dark art - I think a website should be clean, simple and results driven. I specialise in small to medium web design and with the help of 3rd parties much larger e-commerce sites - Below are just a few important considerations.
Browser compatibility
With the 2010 EU Ruling all new computers that run Windows software must now come with a choice of browsers to install. This means that Microsoft’s Internet Explorer could start to lose its dominance to alternative web browsers. Because each browser has its own rendering engine your website will look different from one browser to another. To take this into account we’ll spend time on perfecting a design that will work for each of these browsers.
iPad
Will this revolutionize printed media? Rejuvenate press/digital advertising? Will the iPad do for publishing what the ipod did for music? EasthallDesign thinks it will, variable (landscape and portrait) layouts, auto scaling architecture for future web design? Definitely. The new generation of mobile phones/devices is also having an impact on our thinking when designing websites. For example, we have a full understanding of the iPhone’s limitations and advantages and the know-how to optimize your website’s output so that it will always look stunning, no matter the medium.
Search Engine Optimization.
How will people find your website amongst 20 billion pages? Organic searches, Paid for clicks, Ad words are all options open to you. I optimize all my websites to be as strong as possible for organic search results. I have also help set up paid for clicks with Google and Yahoo.
Usability and accessibility.
The W3C is the body that sets standards for the World Wide Web and web design. The Web Accessibility Initiative (WAI) develops strategies, guidelines, and resources to help make the Web accessible to people with disabilities. I where ever possible adhere to these guidelines and will make the client aware if the design will contradict these guidelines.
